what your colleague just said by the coffee machine?
It’s time to learn real, spoken Norwegian — the way it’s actually used.
You’ve studied. You’ve taken courses. Maybe you’ve even passed the B2 exam. But now that you live in Norway, something feels off.
When Norwegians speak quickly or informally, the words blur together. Conversations at lunch or by the coffee machine feel like a test you weren’t prepared for. Even if you understand most things, you’re unsure how to respond.
That awkward silence. That hesitation. That feeling of still being an “outsider” in the language — even though you’ve done everything right.
It’s frustrating. And it’s not your fault.
What you learned in your course or textbook is not enough to thrive in spoken Norwegian.
Why? Because real Norwegian is fast. Idiomatic. Unfiltered. Full of shortcuts, slang, and cultural references that never show up in your textbook.
you need to go beyond the classroom course and exam.
You need exposure to real, authentic Norwegian — with guidance that helps you understand it, and use it yourself.

Helen – group lesson student
I’m a Norwegian language nerd and coach. I’ve taught hundreds of students over the past 5+ years, and I created this course because I saw the same thing over and over:
My students knew the grammar. They could write well. But when it came to informal speech, they got stuck.
Why? Because most of what they knew would be typical written language or translated from English word by word. And that just sounds unnatural in Norwegian.
This course is my answer.

Practical Norwegian is designed for intermediate to advanced students living in Norway or students who use Norwegian on a regular basis. It's tailored to those who want to improve their understanding and fluency of Norwegian, especially in spoken contexts involving native speakers.
Beginners.
Pre-intermediate learners (A2) who are not familiar with B1-level concepts
People who primarily need a course to improve their writing skills (this course is mostly for speaking)
Practical Norwegian is centered around AUTHENTIC materials, i.e. materials which are not originally made for learners. Assuming you have prior knowledge about Norwegian grammar, this course focuses on actually applying that grammar in real life.
You get lifetime access to 7 extensive worksheet PDFs, quizzes, activities, 25 hours of prerecorded videos and guides for achieving native-speaker fluency. In addition, you may choose private or group lessons.
The private lessons will be coordinated individually and tailored to your tempo. When we meet, we'll spend the majority of the time on structured speaking exercises which focus on various language structures.
Live group sessions are conducted online with me, and take place on a weekly basis. They are interactive, with a maximum of 6 participants for personalized learning. You'll engage in discussions and practice integrating advanced grammar when you speak.
The next round of group lessons will take place in January 2026. Registrations open in January.

This course is suitable for those with a good foundation in Norwegian, the ideal range being B1 to B2. You should be confident that you are B1 or above when starting the course. I don't have any tests for you on my page as of yet, but if you're unsure, you will find multiple ways to test your Norwegian if you do a Google search 😉
